EU Related Referendums

On 27 February, the Seimas passed a decision to organize a mandatory referendum on Lithuania's entry to the EU in 2004, to be held on 10–11 May 2003. The referendum question was as follows: 'I am in favour of Lithuania's membership of the European Union' (official translation). 91.07 percent of the citizens cast 'YES' votes and the turnout was 63.37 percent. The Lithuanian proportion of positive votes from the total electorate was the highest among EU candidate countries, reaching 57.76 percent. President Paksas signed a decree on 21 August submitting Lithuania's EU Accession Treaty to Parliament for ratification.
